Advocating Secure Land Tenure for Northern Communities
Northern Lands Initiative delivers targeted programs to strengthen land rights, provide legal and advisory support, conduct research, and promote environmental sustainability in the semi-arid counties of Mandera, Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Wajir. Our work empowers marginalized communities to secure ownership, mitigate degradation, and build resilient futures amid climate and resource challenges.

Our Programs in Detail
Secure Land Tenure & Rights Advocacy
We propagate and protect land tenure rights for marginalized northern communities through education, awareness campaigns, and advocacy. This includes empowering individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to claim and defend their rights under Kenyan law, particularly in pastoralist areas prone to disputes.
Affordable Legal & Advisory Services on Land Matters
Providing accessible advisory on ownership, Ownership documents and land use issues. We facilitate access to affordable legal services for the needy, offering guidance on registration, dispute resolution, and mitigation of environmental impacts through informed land management strategies.
Environmental Stewardship & Degradation Mitigation
Educating the public on land management to combat degradation in semi-arid regions. Through tree-planting campaigns and sustainable practices, we promote cleaner, safer environments while addressing climate vulnerabilities affecting pastoral livelihoods.
Research, Empowerment & Partnerships
Undertaking in-depth research on land matters to inform policy and action. We empower communities with targeted training, enter strategic arrangements with Governments - both National & County - for rights and concessions, apply for grants/donations, and create awareness among the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized.
